Vicki Stogdill is passionate about the people of Iowa
Iowa’s economy is slowly recovering after years of over-spending. And while the historic elections of 2010 have helped bring Iowa's spending back in line with revenues, constant attempts to squander Iowa taxpayers' dollars mean we must stay vigilant and on guard.
Vicki Stogdill believes Iowa needs more leaders who will guide it back to responsible spending and regulatory practices to restore business growth. By curbing waste and increasing efficiency Iowa can improve the way in which it delivers the necessary government services. Vicki believes that Iowa’s government should never compete with private industry, or pick “winners and losers” within an industry. Any bill put before the State legislature must be held up to a Constitutional standard before consideration for passage.
Having been a small-business owner and worked in their family’s retail store for 24 years, Vicki knows what challenges face Iowa’s small businesses. She knows how to implement a budget, sign the front side of a paycheck, and get things done. Iowa must become more "business friendly" in its tax and regulatory structure - and the jobs will follow. Tough choices must constantly be made to ensure that precious tax dollars are spent on the highest priorities. Government leaders must remember where jobs come from....the private sector. Implementing a climate for job creation will help spur economic growth. While there is still too high of unemployment in Iowa -- we have been somewhat insulated from the harshest downturn because of Iowa's vibrant agricultural economy. Vicki grew up in a farming community in Northwest Iowa - so she has a unique ability to balance the diverse nature of Iowa's future.
Vicki believes that Education decisions should be made in by elected local school districts, that teachers should be allowed to teach (and not be baby-sitter, social engineers or be mired in paperwork), and that parents should have school choice to decide where their Education tax dollars go.
Vicki is an Independent-thinker
Having previously been a life-long Republican, Vicki believes that both fiscal and social conservative values are what are needed for a prosperous and orderly society. Vicki has been a delegate to the Republican Conventions at the County, District and State levels and has helped craft the party platform at those conventions. In 2010 Vicki ran for the Iowa House as an Independent -- because too often, a party affiliation can trump issues. Vicki feels strongly that conservative and Constitutional beliefs are needed to put Iowa back on track. A party affiliation doesn't always guarantee that the person will uphold the values of that party. Vicki Stogdill is a Conservative through-and-through. Vicki would like to see "partisanship" end in our State Capitol, and have both parties come together for the mutual benefit of the citizens of Iowa.
Voters in Central Iowa often tell Vicki that they're tired of politicians who campaign, get elected and then never return a phone call or email. Voters are hungry for leaders who care about the needs of Iowans again, and will be responsive to fellow citizens.Vicki wants the opportunity to bring government back to being “of the people, by the people, for the people.” She believes both parties have been too concerned about promoting themselves and have let the people down, by selfish “power grabs” that benefit themselves and not the people of Iowa. It's time for people to “come together” for the common good of our State and stand together as people who will get back to fundamental principles of leadership and ethics - for the betterment of all Iowans.
We must protect Private Property Rights
Vicki would introduce a bill in Iowa that would seek to make it a State Law that any pending legislation would have to be inspected for A) Constitutionality, and B) that it does not interfere with Personal Property Rights, before it would be considered for passage.
