If you believe Iowa needs a new direction, please be informed and vote each office.
Straight-party voting has allowed the two major parties to retain the majority of power in Iowa government. his two-party process controls who participates in debates, and makes it more difficult for voters to have more choices. TIf you believe the most powerful segment of a population should be the PEOPLE, instead of the government - please seek out candidates (like Vicki Stogdill) who want to work for the people instead of a political party.
Vicki believes government should return to being OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE. If you agree, please support Vicki when voting for Iowa House District 64.
Some timeless words from a great American President;
(history can be one of our greatest teachers if we will remember it).
"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."
- Abraham Lincoln

Candidatge comparison in Des Moines Register (9/28/10)

All three candidates had the opportunity to submit their priorities in the article, and as usual, you may want to "read between the lines" with priorities listed by two of the candidates;
Janet Petersen lists many goals she is in favor of, but voters might want to ask her why she hasn't made them a priority in her 10 years in office. She also doesn't mention how she would pay for the initiatives, especially when Iowa is already projected by some to be billions of dollars in debt. She has not provided any solutions of how to get Iowa out of debt, and instead appears to be in favor of more spending.
Dan Kennedy lists infrastructure work on bridges and roads, and also about "encouraging" grasslands and pheasant habitat. But what he doesn't mention is that he is in favor of raising the tax on gasoline by four cents per gallon to pay for the additional road & bridge work (construction jobs that may also benefit some of Mr. Kennedy's customers). Infrastructure maintenance of this type is already part of Iowa's budget, and if legislators would simply apply those taxes already being collected toward that purpose, the funds would be available to do that work. Mr. Kennedy also fails to mention that his goal of "encouraging" grasslands would involve forcing Iowa farmers to grow those crops on a portion of their acres, or face some sort of financial penalty.
In contrast, Vicki Stogdill wants to restore fiscal accountability, and Constitutional governance. When both the Federal and Iowa Constitutions are followed, it puts the people of Iowa back in the place of power, and seperates the powers of the branches of government as they were meant to be. Vicki also wants to make Iowa a more attractive state in which to do business. Vicki Stogdill believes landowners and homeowners should have control over their own property rights. Government has a purpose, and it is to serve the people of Iowa, not the other way around. Too many of Iowsa's elected office-holders are "ruling" instead of "representing" Iowans.
