Get to know Vicki Stogdill

Picture
A Des Moines resident for over 27 years, and a lifelong Iowan, Vicki Stogdill has a broad range of experience to offer in service to her fellow Iowans.   Having grown up in rural Carroll County on a family farm, Vicki understands the important balance of Iowa's urban and rural diversity. Vicki wants to preserve the characteristics that make Iowa special - for her children and all of Iowa's future generations.   Vicki moved to Des Moines in 1983 to attend American Institute of Business (AIB) and graduated in 1985.  She held a Personal Insurance License and worked for an Insurance Agency in downtown Des Moines before meeting her husband and joining their family business.

Vicki Stogdill is a strong conservative who believes our Federal Constitution and its Amendments have allowed America to become the most prosperous country on earth.  Our U.S. Constitution defines enumerated powers given specifically to our Federal Government, as well as those powers which are reserved for the States.  All other powers were to be held by the people to control their own local governments.  Vicki believes any bill being considered for passage must be held up to a Constitutional standard with adherence to both our Federal and State Constitutions before they should gain support by legislators.  Failure to live by these standards has created the problems that we have seen growing for decades, and desperately need reforming.

Vicki Stogdill has the experience Iowa needs

As a former small business owner in Des Moines for over 20 years, Vicki understands how to create a budget, live within that budget, meet a payroll and inspire teamwork through leadership.  Vicki has always valued service to others, and is happiest serving her community.  Vicki Stogdill, along with the Stogdill family owned and operated one of Des Moines' most respected businesses in Stogdill's TV & Appliance.  With her experience in business, Vicki saw first-hand how new laws affect small busines, and wants to bring that experience and perspective to the Iowa Legislature.

In the fall of 2008 our Nation saw financial markets crumbling.  Expensive Government bail-out's caused Americans to lose confidence in the U.S. economy, so consumers closed their wallets and retailers nationwide saw their sales volume in a free-fall.  The Stogdill family business was no exception.  They held on for over a year pouring their personal assets into the family business, hoping to see a recovery.  But by 2009 it became clear that both the Federal and State governments were not addressing the root causes of the financial crisis.  Government intervention was making the crisis worse, not better, and consumers lost more confidence in our government's ability to lead us back to prosperity.

More expensive programs like Clunker Cars, Clunker Appliances, and bail-out after bail-out have not resulted in recovery, but have resulted in higher debt and have driven consumer confidence even lower.  The majority of Americans know that throwing more taxpayer money at the situation won't bring a recovery.  True recovery can only come from the private sector.

Vicki believes the key to recovery is job creation - and the only real way to create jobs is to have the government "get out of the way" and allow private business to do it.  Iowa needs to make the conditions favorable for businesses to begin hiring again.  Business growth is the engine that will drive our State back to prosperity.  It's a complex balance of consumer confidence and business strength that must be implemented to bring Iowa - and our country back.  It will take time, and a lot of hard work - but Vicki believes our State and local communities are worth it!

More about Vicki Stogdill:

* Married to her husband Jim since 1986 and they have two children
* Served on a local private School Board, knows how to work together to achieve goals
* Served on the Board of a State-wide Non-profit agency which offers counseling and adoption services to families of Iowa
* Spent 15 months in 2010 & 2011 educating Iowans on the dangers of our  National Debt and Federal Deficit
* Active in her community interacting with legislators each session
* Has voted in virtually every election where she has had the opportunity
* Building on Iowa's strong foundation of ethics and values - Vicki believes it's possible to return our State to a position excellence
* Believes partisan politics is a road block to success in Iowa’s government, leaders need to work together again for the greater good
 * Iowa needs new leaders who will govern fairly and effectively - with the best interest of Iowans in mind -- not their own political futures * Believes more Iowans of able body and mind should "take a turn" at being a citizen legislator instead of having "career politicians"

The Stogdill family closed their family business in December
2009, and thankfully were blessed to be able to pay their bills without burdening  the community, and helped as many of their employees find jobs as they could.  Having gone through this difficult experience has given Vicki Stogdill a unique perspective on the recovery that needs to take place in our State to bring Iowa back to prosperity.  Vicki is not an economist or financial expert -- but she is an "every day" Iowan with business experience and common sense that she's willing to put to use serving her fellow Iowans in the State she calls home.  Vicki believes you won't find an Iowan with a greater passion for restoring personal freedoms and rights to Iowans -- and allow the private sector of Iowa to prosper.
