One of my all-time favorite movie quotes:
"When we win, we praise Him, when we lose we praise Him."
- Facing the Giants
I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helped my campaign for Iowa House in any way. You may have displayed a yard sign, donated money, canvassed your neighborhood, voted for me and/or prayed for me and my family. Each of you gave of yourselves and in doing so touched hundreds – even thousands of people in Iowa House District 64.
While we didn’t prevail in the election, we “won” almost 13% of the votes cast (12.67% to be exact) in less than 80 days - and if you want to get technical....it was actually 29 days from the date I kicked off my campaign on August 24th, until "early satellite voting" began on September 23rd. So our results were actually quite impressive I'd say! Though it wasn’t enough to win, it was a respectable showing which proved that there are hundreds of people in District 64 who were not happy with the two choices offered up by the two major political parties.
Join me – there is still much to do!
So what’s next? Well, first I am thankful that many conservative patriots WERE elected to our State and Federal government in this election. It was the largest sweep of conservatives into political office nationwide since the great depression. I hope leaders at the State and National level don’t wrongly interpret their wins as being support for “Republicans” but rather as support for truly patriotic conservatives who want to put our State and Country back on a path of moral and economic prosperity through smaller government and through a return to being governed by our Constitution which contains a system of Laws based on God’s natural law. Our House of Representatives has been returned to a party who professes to want these goals, so we must stay in contact with them and hold them accountable for their campaign promises. And for those races we didn’t win – we must keep working to educate more people for the need to return to less spending at the Federal, State and local level with increased efficiency to restore fiscal accountability so we can leave a better future to the next generation.
History Lesson – getting here took time; lasting change will also take time
If you look at American History, it only took one or two generations after the founding of our nation for leaders to begin infringing on freedoms of the individual. By the mid 1800’s Americans had begun to enjoy such prosperity and innovation that a movement was spreading that began to allow governments to enter areas of life previously left in the hands of the private sector. Schools that had originally begun almost exclusively by churches so that people could learn to read the Bible, began to be viewed as a “public right” and States started to include a public school mandate in their State Constitutions. [Virtually all of the top Universities in America began as theological centers of learning, and as a result of “secularization” they bear little resemblance to that heritage today]. Charity and helping the poor once handled mostly by Christian churches – was taken over by local, State and the Federal Government and is now seen as an entitlement by many. What could be argued was begun with the best of intentions, has transformed our country into one that has severely limited the freedoms of many in the name of entitling others, which has led to shifting costs from those working for benefits to those who now depend on government for their existence rather than on themselves.
The next generation is counting on us
A truly free political system requires Americans to re-engage in the process of governing at all levels of city, state and federal government. If we are vigilant, liberty-minded American patriots can again be an influence in our communities if we will commit to being concerned, active and educated. And we must teach these values to our children, so they will also hold these liberties and freedoms in the highest regard, so they do not become complacent to let them slip away as we have. Advancing liberty is a worthwhile goal, and we must stay involved – our country and our communities are depending on us. We owe them our best.
I look forward to continuing to work with my patriotic friends old and new - who are making a difference each day. Best regards to you and your families.
